1. Barren Island, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Andaman & Nicobar Island is one of the most visited tourist spots in India. Alongside it lies Barren Island, a pristine gem of Andaman, which is only active volcano of India. Obviously, it is not long-established volcano but is one of the active volcano in chain of South Asia. This volcano erupted in 1991 and the explosion resulted in destruction of its beautiful flora and fauna and extinction of many species. One can take a glimpse of this island from afar while on ship or ferry but will be prohibited to disembark on this island due to safety concern. It is believed that the water around this island is pristine and also have Manta rays, basalt formations, and exotic coral reefs. But all these are just thoughts, no one actually know the  reality.

2. Mount Kanchenjunga, Sikkim

Mount Kanchenjunga, world’s third highest mountain, is a dream of many adventure seekers to climb. But unfortunately, it is insurmountable atleast from India’s side due to religious reasons. The Sikkim government had banned expeditions to it in 2001 under provisions of Place of Worship act, 1991. The Buddhists consider this mountain as an important worship place and are of view that the exploration of this mountain by climbers could hurt their religious  sentiments. They expressed their antagonism by what they regard as the desecration of the mountain by godless foreigners. That’s why the Sikkim government framed an act to preserve this mountain.

3. Upper part of Pangong Tso, Ladakh

Well, you might be thinking that how Pangong Tso lake is listed here as many of you must have been once to this place. But it is interesting to know that half portion of this lake is prohibited area. Actually, 50% of this color changing lake comes under disputed territory. The line of actual control (LAC), segregating Indian controlled territory from Chinese controlled territory, passes through this lake making it inaccessible and unexplorable for tourists.

4. North Sentinel Island, Andaman & Nicobar Island

North Sentinel Island is one of the most mysterious places in India. Although, this place is already inhabited by people of sentinel tribe but people from outside world can’t explore this vantage spot. The sentinel tribe which is just few in number(nearly 50-150 peoples) have completely isolated themselves from rest of the world for many ages as they don’t  want to merge with any civilization. Many efforts have been made in past to communicate and develop a network with them but all of them have considerably failed. Thus, by taking into consideration the viewpoint and respect the wishes of this tribes, the Indian government had framed an act called the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Protection of Aboriginal Tribes Act of 1956 which restrict tourists to enter anywhere within 4 km of this island.
